Roleplay Venues

Foxville is a city full of roleplay hooks and opportunities just waiting to be explored by intrepid player characters. In this section, we're going to draw your attention to what we call venues, which are specific locations within the setting that have been created especially to facilitate roleplay. Consider these venues to be roleplay hubs, public locations where you can reliably visit with your character and expect to find opportunities for play, whether it be with your fellow player characters or GM played NPCs. Each venue will be represented by one or more public channels in the Discord. Read below to acquaint yourself with the venues we have on offer. Do note this list might very well expand over time as the setting continues to develop!

The Prison

The largest high-security prison and rehabilitation center in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Foxville Penitentiary is a sprawling complex that houses thousands of inmates. Almost a city within a city, the penitentiary is a place of contrasts, with its imposing walls and watchtowers standing in stark contrast to the lush greenery of the surrounding countryside. While the competent machine that runs Foxville's public relations department barely even acknowledges the existence of the prison in the first place, the penitentiary has been there for almost as long as Foxville has been a city, and remains an important asset to the local economy. A major prison of this size not only houses many inmates, but employs a substantial number of staff - from correctional officers and medical personnel to administrative staff and maintenance workers. Here are some potential roleplay hooks that you could lean into if you're interested in the penitentiary...

» Voracious Population: Although the prison houses inmates who have committed a broad range of crimes, it is particularly notorious for being home to the largest population of prisoners who have been convicted of a cannibalistic murder in all of the country. The death penalty has not existed in the UNAR for many, many years, but those in the know understand that going to a prison stacked with predators might as well be a death sentence in anything but name. Some of the biggest, baddest bitches around are locked up here, and they're always hungry. You might well be a prison guard tasked with keeping this rowdy bunch in check, a criminologist or psychologist interested in studying some of the more notorious prisoners, or perhaps even a fellow prisoner locked up and doing her best to survive or come out on top.
» Prison Gangs: The presence of prison gangs is almost universal throughout the rehabilitation system in North America, and Foxville Penitentiary is no exception. These gangs have far reaching connections often to their counterparts on the outside, and are involved in a wide range of criminal activities, from drug smuggling to extortion. Either inside or outside, you might be connected to one of these gangs - perhaps you're a member, or an undercover cop trying to bring them down. You could also be a small-time supplier, helping to smuggle things in and out of the prison, or a guard who's been bribed to look the other way.
» Locked Up Loved One: Although people are sent to the penitentiary from all over Virginia and even beyond, it's not uncommon for the families of inmates to move to Foxville so they can be closer to their loved ones, or for the prison to house Foxville natives. Maybe you've got a family member inside the prison system - a sibling, a parent, maybe even your lover. It could also just be a best friend, an abusive ex... hell, maybe you even helped put them behind bars, but you still visit all the same. Having someone on the inside unlocks all manner of interesting scenarios, ranging from fighting a legal battle to try and get them released to something a bit more spicy, like conjugal visits.

Foxville University

Right up there with the likes of Harvard and Yale, Foxville University is one of the most prestigious institutions of higher education in the United North American Republic, with a rich history of academic excellence, famed alumni, and substantial contributions to science, technology, and the arts. The university, frequently dubbed 'Fox U' for short by the locals, is a sprawling campus that is home to a diverse student body and a faculty of some of the most respected scholars in the country. The university is a place of learning, but also a place of living, with its own student housing, sports facilities, and a vibrant campus life. It is fully integrated into the city and has classrooms, dorms and administrative buildings scattered all over. Feel like pursuing a roleplay opportunity at Foxville University? » Student Life: Students come from all over the country and even the world to study at Foxville, and landing a scholarship at Fox U is a dream come true for many. Unless you're a Foxville local and have the privilege of living at home or perhaps even having your own apartment, chances are you stay in one of the dorms on campus - it's a hell of a lot cheaper than renting an apartment elsewhere in the city, and it's a fantastic way of making new friends, especially if you're an outgoing party animal sort. Making connections is a good way to start if you're planning on playing a student - find a roomie if there are any fellow players, or talk with the GM to see if there are any NPCs you could befriend. Student life is vibrant at Fox U, and there's always something happening that can encourage roleplay.
» Exchange Program: As one of the world's most famous universities, Foxville maintains a number of relationships with other institutions around the world, and has a large body of students who originate from other countries. Some might be there temporarily on a year long exchange, while others are visiting on student visas for the entirety of their degree. If you're interested in playing a character who comes from a very different part of the world, having them be a student at Fox U is a solid place to start, as it gives you a solid foundation to establish new connections with your character even if they don't have any roots in the city.
» Faculty: If you're an expert in your field and have a passion for teaching, Fox U is a fantastic place to work, especially if you've managed to land yourself a tenured position. The university aggressively recruits the best and brightest to join its faculty, and it's not uncommon to find Nobel laureates and other distinguished scholars teaching classes. Even if you're more inclined to research than to teach, the university has a number of research centers and labs that are always looking for new talent, and frequently collaborates with the private sector to develop new technologies and products. Being a faculty member also places you in a position of authority over the students, which affords interesting opportunities in itself for roleplay.

Munro High School

There are many high schools in Foxville, but Munro High is the oldest and most prestigious of them all. Many of its students land scholarships to Fox U, and the institutions have a tremendously close relationship with one another. The school is named after the city's founder, and has a long and storied history of academic excellence, with a reputation for producing some of the most successful and influential individuals in the city. It also has an impressive athletic tradition, with a number of state championships under its belt in both football and basketball. For aspiring, gifted students, especially those with ambitious parents, Munro High is the most coveted high school in the city and unsurprisingly the largest and best funded. An expansive school campus with a wide range of sports facilities and plenty of extracurricular activities, if you're interested in playing a senior student or teacher, this is the place to be.

» The Thunderdome: Senior year is a time of great change and upheaval for many students - it's crunch time, where the culmination of your entire academic career to date comes to a head. You've got coursework to finish and exams to study for, and then there's the small matter of deciding what you're going to do with the rest of your life. It's a time of great stress and anxiety, but also one of great opportunity, where you can make a name for yourself and leave a lasting impression on the school. If you're a senior student, you might be a part of the student council, or perhaps you're a star athlete, or maybe you're just a regular kid trying to make it through the year in one piece. Scholarships at Fox U are on the line, and there are only so many of them on offer... you know, they say some students might kill for one of those.
» Hot For Teacher: Munro High has a number of teachers who are not only respected educators, but also well known figures in the city. Some of them are former students of the school themselves, and have been teaching there for years. If you're interested in playing a teacher, you might be a coach of one of the school's sports teams, or perhaps you're a guidance counselor. Some of the slots in the school faculty are likely taken by GM controlled NPCs, but there's always room for more and flexibility to shuffle key personnel around to accommodate player characters. If you're interested in playing a student, you might have a crush on one of the teachers, or perhaps you're a bit of a troublemaker and have a habit of winding them up.
» Student Elections: Aspiring politicians and leaders of tomorrow often get their start in high school, and Munro High is no exception. But if you're planning on being the next town mayor or perhaps aiming even higher than that, you'd better be on your guard - the competition is fierce, and the students with the most ambition are eating each other alive out there! Literally. Whoever wins the position of student president will be in a position of great power and influence, especially when it comes to planning the biggest social event of the year - the prom.

Progress Quarter

Progress Quarter is a neighborhood in the west side of the city that is popularly dubbed 'tech town.' The most modern and advanced part of Foxville by quite a distance, this fusion of cutting edge architecture and sustainable urban planning is home to a number of tech companies, research institutions, and startups, most famously the Metaverse company headquarters and training campus. It is a hot bed of activity for young up-and-comers in the tech industry, and is a place where innovation and creativity are encouraged. The neighborhood is also home to a number of trendy restaurants, bars, and clubs, and is a popular place for young professionals to live. If you're interested in playing a character who is involved in the tech industry, or just wants to be part of the city's most modern and forward thinking neighborhood, Progress Quarter is the place to be.

» Metaverse: Metaverse is one of the world's largest and most successful tech companies, part of the so-called 'big five' of the tech industry, MAGIC (Metaverse, Aether, Galaxy, Infinity Innovations, and Cognis). The company has a diverse portfolio of corporate activities but is famous for revolutionizing modern computing with its groundbreaking virtual reality technology, based on the practical application of quantum computing. The company's headquarters in Foxville is a sprawling campus that is home to thousands of employees. Almost anyone in Foxville who wants to break into the tech industry would be eager for an internship or position at Metaverse - some of the stuff they're working on might blow your mind.
» Hipster Haven: Young zoomers and millennials who are looking for a place to live that's close to their work and has a vibrant nightlife are increasingly choosing Progress Quarter. The neighborhood is home to some of the best cafes and restaurants in the city, and has a thriving arts scene. This is a great place to go for some traditional 'coffee shop RP,' or to meet up with friends for a night out on the town.
» Foxlink: The Progress Quarter is a major infrastructure hub for the city, known as Foxlink. High speed maglev trains connect to the main Virginian railway network, and the neighborhood is home to the city's main bus and metro stations. It's often where people who arrive in the city the first time come to, and it's a great place to meet new people and start new storylines. If you're looking to venture out into the countryside for a day trip or to commute to some of the industrial workplaces on the city outskirts, this is where you'll start your journey.

Oldtown

If the Progress Quarter is the trendy, clean, sanitized modern face of Foxville that appears on most of the postcards, Oldtown is the city's heart and soul. The oldest part of the city, it is a place of narrow, winding streets and historic buildings, with a rich and diverse cultural heritage. The neighborhood is home to a number of historic landmarks, including the city's oldest church, and is a place where you can find a number of traditional businesses, from family owned restaurants to antique shops. It's not without its problems, however. Crime has been on the rise in the neighborhood in recent years, and the area is home to a number of gangs and criminal organizations. The city's working class primarily live here thanks to cheaper rents, and it has a sizeable immigrant population.

» Saint Mary's Cathedral: The oldest church in Foxville, Saint Mary's Cathedral is a beautiful example of Gothic architecture, and is home to a number of priceless religious artifacts. The church is a place of pilgrimage for many, and is a popular place for weddings and funerals. The church is also home to a number of charitable organizations, and is a place where you can find a number of volunteer opportunities. If you're interested in playing a character who is religious, or who is involved in charity work, this is a good place to start.
» The Docks: Oldtown is right on the river, and is home to the city's main port. The docks are a place of great activity, and are home to a number of businesses, from shipping companies to warehouses. There's also something of a criminal element here, with a number of gangs and criminal organizations using the docks as a base of operations, especially if they might be involved in running drugs, guns, or people. Characters involved in organized crime might be interested in the docks, as might characters who are involved in shipping or trade.
» Immigrant Community: Outside of the Progress Quarter, Oldtown is the most diverse part of the city, and is home to a number of foreign communities and ethnic minorities. Although equality in the UNAR is a core value, Virginia has a long history of racial tension, and Oldtown is no exception. The majority of the immigrants to Foxville come from the East Asian Prosperous Coalition, and are ethnically Chinese, Korean, or Japanese, though these are largely found in more middle class areas. In Oldtown, immigrants originating from the African Federation, the Central American Republics, and Sudamérica are more common.

Cherryville

Cherryville was once a small town in its own right, but has since been absorbed into the city of Foxville, and is now a neighborhood in the city's north. Although the tourist brochure won't tell you as much, Cherryville has become the city's de facto red light district. It occasionally gets nicknamed "Little Amsterdam" affectionately by the locals, and as you might expect, is home to a thriving sex industry - brothels, strip clubs, and adult stores are all common sights here. The neighborhood is also home to a number of bars and nightclubs, and is a popular place for young people to go out and party. There are rumours of a dark underbelly however, especially if you know where to look.

» The Meat Locker: An underground sex club that one won't find advertising on the regular internet, The Meat Locker is a taboo and forbidden establishment which caters to the most depraved sexual desires one can imagine - in particular, those of a cannibalistic nature. It has a storied reputation for being a place where people go missing frequently, to the point that many young people new to the city and bold enough to venture into Cherryville are warned to stay away from it. Despite these warnings and despite the rumours that the club is a front for a cannibalistic cult, it has never been shut down by the police and is considered to be a 'legitimate business with a marketing gimmick' by the city's authorities. This is an ideal venue for dark, erotic roleplay that may venture into extremes, or for willing (or curious) prey to find themselves in a dangerous situation.
» Drug Culture: The use of designer party drugs is widespread in Cherryville, both by the sex workers who make their living here and their clientele. There's no easier place to score in all of Foxville, and although the police do maintain a presence within the borough, it's nominal at best. Whether you're a pusher or a user, there's lots of potential for roleplay here. The drug trade is a dangerous one, and there's always the risk of getting caught or getting in over your head, or running afoul of one of the criminal gangs that consider Cherryville their territory.
» Every Vice Catered For: Whatever your kink, whatever your quirk, Cherryville is the place you can go to find it. There are countless institutions here full of sex workers who will be more than happy to facilitate your needs and make your wildest dreams come true. Cherryville is an ideal location when you're out for some casual, no strings attached sex roleplay, or if you're looking to play a character who is involved in the sex trade. But beware, for playing a prostitute or a stripper in a city like Foxville might not always be as glamorous as it seems - or safe!

Amelia's Grove City Park

Named after one of the most influential women in Foxville's storied history, Amelia's Grove is a massive park found in the heart of the city that is interconnected with practically every neighborhood in Foxville. The park is a place of great natural beauty, with a number of walking trails, picnic areas, and a large pond. There are several outsdoor sporting facilities including tennis and basketball courts, and even a baseball field. The park is also home to a number of cultural events, and is a popular place for people to go for a walk or to take their dogs. The park is also home to a number of homeless people, and is a place where you can find a number of volunteer opportunities.

» Dangers In The Dark: Although a beautiful place during the day, Amelia's Grove is not safe during the night. Of all the places where someone is most likely to be abducted in Foxville, the city park is considered one of the highest risk areas. It's not at all uncommon for someone to go out for a walk at night or use the park as a shortcut on their way home after partying, only to never be seen again. There's all kinds of shadowy places to hide when amidst so much greenery, so you'd better watch your step.
» Public Space: The park is a place where you can find a number of public events, from concerts to art shows. Amelia's Grove is the largest public space in any city in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and is very popular with the residents - there's always something happening here on almost every day of the week, and if there isn't something happening, you can probably find someone who's willing to start something up.
» Fuzzy Meadows: Fuzzy Meadows Animal Wellness Center is a community outreach project owned by Foxville Biotech, a subsidiary of the Carlyle Group. Located to the eastern side of the park, where the city begins to blend into the countryside, the center offers a number of opportunities for animal lovers and those interested in veterinary medicine. Many volunteer workers make use of their time here to gain experience and to help out the community, while getting to work with adorable four-legged friends. The center even has a play park where you can take your dog to socialize with other pets, and a miniature farm where children can go on horse rides or feed the chickens. Those who volunteer at Fuzzy Meadows are occasionally offered more lucrative opportunities by Foxville Biotech, who are always looking for new candidates to further their understanding of the unique relationships between animals and humans.

Virtual Reality

Virtual reality is a revolutionary technology that has redefined how many people spend their free time in the world in which Foxville is set. Compared to our real world, VR is incredibly advanced, allowing for a level of immersion that is almost indistinguishable from reality, including a full spectrum range of sensory experiences that are equal to, or even 'better' than their real world equivalents. The technology is used for a wide range of applications, from gaming to education, and is a popular way for people to socialize and meet new people. For those truly immersed in the opportunities that virtual reality has to offer and willing to invest big in a latency-free experience, Foxville is the ideal place to live due to its extremely close proximity to the Metaverse Data Cube, a massive quantum server farm that is the heart of all major VR operations in North America.

» Everyday Escapism: Because of Foxville's association with Metaverse, VR headsets are all the rage in the city and sensory rigs are extremely affordable in contrast to other parts of the world. Almost all middle class households have at least one, and it's not uncommon for people to spend hours a day in VR. More well off individuals might even own the latest and greatest in VR technology, Omniglasses, which blur the line between VR and augmented reality, allowing the real and the virtual worlds to blend seamlessly. If you see someone wearing a pair of trendy looking glasses with a faint blue glow, chances are they're using one - and if they give you a weird look, they might even be using some kind of AR overlay to simulate what you might look like naked.
» Unlimited Possibilities: According to Metaverse CEO Stephanie Jacobs, you can't fight the future.. and virtual reality isn't going away any time soon. The growth of quantum technologies will only continue to make VR more and more immersive, and the possibilities for the technology are seemingly endless. In the VR world, you can be anyone you like - the only limit is your imagination, server space, and computing power. Most people aren't quite at the point where they can afford to host very large sims on their own just yet, but there are plenty of public servers hosted by thousands of VR 'real estate' companies that one can pay a subscription to use.
» Gateway To Depravity: The full sensory experience that a good VR rig can offer and the 'frontier' nature of the technology has led to a number of interesting developments in the adult entertainment industry, especially for individuals who wish to experience things that are illegal or even impossible in the real world. VR is a major social networking hub for those with fringe sexual interests, and is something of a 'gateway' or 'awakening' portal for those intrigued by the possibility of vore. It's not uncommon for someone to start out dipping their toes into the prey lifestyle in VR, only to one day go missing for real. There are increasingly large numbers of vore focused sims out there, with the most popular even having its server hosted in Foxville, 'Voretopia.'
