Emily Russo is a 26 year old English teacher at Munro High School, where she has been working for the past three years. She moved to Foxville after leaving Los Angeles, fleeing a violent, abusive ex-girlfriend who had been growing increasingly erratic and dangerous. In spite of the past traumas she's suffered, or perhaps even because of them, she's an incredibly empathetic person and is beloved by the vast majority of her students. She was extremely grateful to receive employment at the city's largest and most well funded high school, at least at first. However, all is not quite well in the workplace. Emily suffered constant sexual harassment by a fellow teacher throughout her time at Munro, and in spite of her complaints to the administration, thought that nothing would ever be done to stop it. Until one day, Superintendent Beryl Waites came to inquire about her poor performance, and Emily's prayers were finally answered. Just not in a way she ever imagined. Beryl turned out to be a consummate predator, and was more than happy to eliminate the abuser, albeit getting her hooks deep into Emily in the process. Now, the pair are effectively dating, and Beryl exhibits more and more control over Emily's life, including her work. Emily's students have noticed the change in her, and many are worried about her! Yet, she seems rather... content with the arrangement.
